She’s out, and Komen reels

You could see this coming, just as you can see residual damage to the previously all-noble charitable juggernaut, the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Karen Handel, that right-wing Palinite from Georgia who got hired by Komen to attend to Repulbican politics, has now resigned because she’s peeved that her personally engineered de-funding of Planned Parenthood got overturned under pro-choice pressure late last week.

She’s all huffy about “mischaracterizations” of the initial de-funding, which she essentially acknowledges ring-leading.

What I’m going to do here is simply stand by, and refer you again to, my Sunday column, which said Komen had foolishly waded into the culture war in the first place and would find no easy way out toward restoring itself as the most admired cancer-fighting charitable brand in the country.

The next Race for the Cure will be a political event, not a charitable one, I fear.

  1. up close, it looks like chaos, politics, and personalities. back up and it looks like devolution of another institution that has grown ludicrously bigger than the sum of its original beneficiaries. look for more. it’s everywhere. it’s more fun than and more promising than revolution. Is Handel conscious of that? probably not. is anyone involved? does it matter? maybe?

  3. another example of right wing over reach.. Their holier than thou attitude is.. well.. un-christian…
I hope that this will actually drive money to Planned Parenthood..and to those that demonize the orginization.. Planned Parenthood is just that.. Parental Planning..responsable parenting.. something that all political stripes should encourage..responsability..personal responsability.
I hope the deposed exec actually considers the consequences of her actions..
We would all be better off if we all considered ours
